Embracing Spirituality: From Karma to Dharma
“We forgot to walk confidently on Earth. We must remember what we really are, in our purest essence. We created a nice home for ourselves, but do we ever stop and hear life knocking?”
Through spirituality , we give ourselves chances to feel every bit of our life journeys. Spirituality facilitates a connection to the universe that goes beyond the physical world, beyond our bodies and minds. Spirituality i s about finding meaning and purpose in life, discovering our inner selves, and connecting with a higher power. We call that the path of Karma to Dharma. The Kundalini energy is able to bring you closer to your truest essence. That higher power happens to lie within rather than being sought someplace outside ourselves. However, spiritualit y is not limited to yogis in India or monks in Tibet. It is available to anyone who seeks it, even in the hustle and bustle of modern life.
A spiritual awakening is a process that involves a shift in consciousness, a realization of one's true nature, and an awakening to the interconnectedness of all things. Can you recall that feeling of warmth and peace you feel when you hug your loved ones for a long time? Spiritual awakening is like waking up from a deep sleep. Just as we emerge from sleep feeling refreshed, alert, and aware of our surroundings, spiritual awakening can bring a sense of clarity and awareness to our lives. It's like taking off a pair of foggy glasses and seeing the world in a whole new way. We suddenly become aware of the interconnectedness of all things, and we realize that we are part of something much greater than ourselves.
It feels like arriving home. :)
But how can we invest our dearest resources, energy and time, into our spirituality when they are required in many different areas of our lives?
Oh boy, I hear you on this one! It can be tough to find the time and energy to devote to our spirituality when the modern world is constantly pulling us in different directions. But here's the thing: spirituality isn't just something we do in our spare time. It's a way of living and being in the world.
Think of it like this: if you want to lead a healthy and fit lifestyle, you have to make time for exercise and healthy eating. It's not always easy, but you know it's important for your overall well-being. The same goes for your spirituality . If you want to feel connected, grounded, and at peace, you have to make time for practices that nourish your spirit. Some examples of these practices include:
- Gratitude journaling: Spend a few minutes each day jotting down things that you feel grateful for. By directing our attention towards the positive aspects of life, we can change our mindset to a more optimistic and abundant perspective. Alternatively, you could try journaling. Set aside 10 minutes every morning with your coffee or tea to put down on paper all of the thoughts and emotions you're experiencing before embarking on your day. Allow yourself to feel them, acknowledge them, and then let them go. This will enable you to start your day with a clear mind.
- Mindful breathing: Take a few minutes to focus on your breath. Close your eyes and inhale deeply through your nose, exhaling slowly through your mouth. This practice can help reduce stress and promote relaxation.
- Prayer or affirmations: Pray or recite affirmations that resonate with you. We recommend the practice of Japji prayer, one of the oldest prayers in the Sikh religion which contains a wide range of spiritual concepts. including the nature of God, the purpose of life, the cycle of birth and death, and the importance of living a righteous and compassionate life. The recitation of Japji is believed to have many spiritual benefits, such as promoting clarity of mind, increasing inner strength, and fostering a deeper understanding of the Sikh faith. You can follow the Japji course provided by the Kundalini Yoga Club.
- Mindful walking: Take a walk outside and be present in the moment. Get close to trees, touch them, and feel their scent. If the wind blows, allow it to move you or if the sun shines, allow its warmth to root in your skin. Really get out there and be fully in the moment interacting with the world around you.
Now, I'm not saying you have to meditate for hours on end or spend all day doing yoga (unless that's your thing, of course!). There are plenty of simple practices you can incorporate into your lifestyle, like taking a few deep breaths when you're feeling stressed, saying an affirmation on your way to work every day, or taking a few minutes to connect with nature on your lunch break.
And here's the best part: investing in your spirituality can actually help you navigate the demands of the modern world more effectively. When you are grounded in your spirituality , you’re better able to handle stress, make decisions from a place of clarity and wisdom, and cultivate deeper, more meaningful relationships with others.
