Awakening and Embodiment: A Journey with Guru Gian at the July 9 Summit

On July 9, during a deeply resonant session at the international yoga summit, we had the privilege of receiving wisdom and guided practice from Guru Gian, founder of the Kundalini Yoga Club and creator of Kundalini Yoga Coaching

With over 25 years of experience in spiritual transformation, Guru Gian shared his profound journey into self-awareness, awakening, and embodiment, guiding attendees through a unique kriya designed to activate the heart and navel centers, connect with the subtle body, and ultimately awaken the "Magical New Human."

From Awakening to Maturity: A Two-Stage Evolution

Guru Gian began by acknowledging the path of personal transformation that unfolds through years of deep practice. Drawing from his own experience, he spoke about the initial phase of awakening that many encounter through Kundalini Yoga and meditation, a phase where we become conscious of our Sat Nam, our true identity.

Through this awakening, we begin to recognize the observer within us—the timeless presence that witnesses all of our experiences, thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations.

However, as he poignantly noted, “Waking up is not enough.”

Many spiritual practitioners awaken to their inner truth yet continue to carry old emotional patterns, limiting beliefs, and conditioned identities. This is where the second phase growing up becomes essential. It's the process of integrating awakening into the everyday human experience, consciously shedding outdated identities, and allowing new forms of self to emerge.

The Self-Incarnation Kriya: A Powerful Practice for Embodiment

The heart of Guru Gian's session was a guided Self-Incarnation Kriya, a powerful meditative journey inspired by the original teachings of Yogi Bhajan. This kriya was designed to help participants move from awakening into embodiment to incarnate the evolved, conscious self that is aligned with both the formless and the formed aspects of our being.

As Guru Gian explained, we are both eternal and evolving:

“There is something in us that never changes - pure emptiness, the eternal witness. And there is also something constantly taking new shape, our evolving identity, energy, inspiration, and form.”

The kriya involved specific breathing techniques—powerful diaphragm breathwork through the mouth, posture to activate the heart chakra, and focused awareness on the belly button, symbolizing our original connection to life and the mother.

The practice encourages you to:

  • Observe the body, but not identify with it.
  • Feel the breath, but remember they are not the breath.
  • Rest in the spacious presence of the witness.
  • Use breath and sound to initiate deep internal transformation

The inclusion of the gong play by Yogi Bhajan, alongside the sacred mantra “Ti Ti Ti Ade Guru”, elevated the kriya into a multi-dimensional experience. The sound vibrations worked deeply on the navel point, stimulating the pranic and subtle bodies, opening the gateway for the new self to be embodied.

Incarnating the Magical New Human

Throughout the practice, Guru Gian encouraged full engagement:

“Give yourself a chance. Incarnate this new, magical human inside of you.”

This “Magical New Human” is the one who lives with awakened awareness while also embodying new qualities : creativity, joy, purpose and presence. It's a being that exists fully in the world, while staying rooted in the timeless.

Guru Gian closed the session with this powerful reminder:

“As yogis, we must hold both the changing and unchanging. We evolve consciously while remaining anchored in the eternal.”

A Final Reflection and an Ongoing Inquiry

Before concluding, Guru Gian offered a question for reflection to the next speaker and to all in attendance:

“How do we balance the unmanifest with the manifest? How do we stay rooted in the formless while fully living in the form?”

This inquiry beautifully captures the essence of modern spiritual practice not as renunciation, but as integration. The call is not just to awaken, but to incarnate the awakened self in the world, with awareness, responsibility, and love.
