Kriya to embody the totality of self

As a fourth-year medical student, I know what exhaustion feels like—long shifts, endless studying, and the quiet ache of being far from home. Some days, the stress feels heavier than my textbooks, and I wonder how long I can keep pushing before something gives.

One evening, after yet another stressful day, I found myself searching for something—anything—to help me feel more balanced. That’s when I discovered the Kriya to Embody the Totality of Self. Could this be the anchor I needed?

Skeptical but hopeful, I committed to practicing this Kriya for seven days. No grand expectations—just curiosity. Here’s how it went.

The Benefits of Practicing This Kriya

Sharper Mental Clarity and Focus

At first, I didn’t feel much—just awkward movements and unfamiliar breathing patterns. But then, something changed. With each breath, it was like clearing the mental fog, like hitting reset on my mind.

I used to push through my study sessions in a haze of fatigue. But after practicing this Kriya, something shifted. My mind felt sharper, like I was actually present rather than just staring at words on a page.

Increased Physical Stamina

By the third night, I realised something—I wasn’t collapsing into bed like before. My body still felt tired, but it was different. Less drained, more balanced, like I had something to replenish me.

I also became more aware of how I carried stress—the tension in my shoulders, the stiffness in my lower back from sitting too long. The postures helped relieve those knots in ways I hadn’t expected.

Stress Relief and Emotional Balance

Breath of Fire became my refuge. At first, I wasn’t sure if I was doing it right, but then I felt it—the heat rising, the tension dissolving. It was as if I finally had a tool to quiet the inner chaos.

For the first time in a while, I could release the stress I had been holding. Not by ignoring it, not by pushing through it, but by simply breathing through it.

Sustained Energy and Improved Digestion

On the worst days—when I forgot to eat, when the exhaustion felt heavier than my thoughts—this Kriya became my pick-me-up. No caffeine, no sugar rush, just breath and movement bringing me back to life. I also noticed something unexpected—my digestion improved. The sluggish heaviness that came with stress started to lift, and my energy felt more steady throughout the day.

A Medical Student’s Perspective: Seven Days In

The first few days were tough. My body felt stiff, my mind raced with doubts—'Is this really going to help?' I wanted to quit. But something told me to keep going. So I did, even when it felt pointless.

At first, 10–15 minutes felt like nothing. But slowly, those minutes became my escape. A sacred pause. A chance to step away from the relentless cycle of stress and just breathe. And for the first time in a long time, I felt like I wasn’t just surviving—I was finding my centre again.

By day four, I caught myself standing taller. The weight I didn’t even realise I was carrying—shoulders hunched, jaw clenched, mind overloaded—started to ease. I wasn’t just less tired; I felt stronger. More present. Less like I was drowning in deadlines, more like I could actually breathe.

On day seven, something remarkable happened. I finished my practice and just sat there, breathing. No rushing, no checklist in my mind—just stillness. And in that moment, I felt something I hadn’t felt in ages—ease. Not just physical lightness, but a deep, quiet clarity. Like I was finally home in myself.

What started as an experiment became a practice I didn’t want to let go of.
