Discover Sahibi Kriya: Your Path to Inner Strength and Balance
During my second year of medical school, I found myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work and constant pressure. One evening, after a particularly stressful day, I stumbled upon Sahibi Kriya. It felt like a lifeline—a way to regain control amidst the chaos. In today’s fast-paced world, Sahibi Kriya helps you reclaim control, strengthening your body and mind to face challenges with confidence. Through a combination of precise postures, breathwork, and focused intention, the practice strengthens your nervous system, increases mental clarity, and boosts physical vitality.
With 7 days of practice, Sahibi Kriya helps you master emotions, manage stress, and harness energy to thrive under pressure. For me, committing to even 7 days felt like a challenge at first, but as each day passed, I noticed subtle shifts—less tension in my body, clearer thoughts, and a newfound ability to stay calm in stressful situations. By the end, it wasn’t just a practice; it became a lifeline that helped me feel more in control of my life and studies. In essence, this Kriya is about cultivating the power to not just survive, but thrive, no matter what comes your way.
Among its many practices, Sahibi Kriya stands out as a powerful sequence of movements that helps you connect with your core and master your "domain" — the centre of your being.
What Is Sahibi Kriya?
Sahibi Kriya harmonizes breathwork and movement to align mind and body. At its heart lies the concept of "controlling your domain," which means fostering mastery over your inner and outer realms. This meditative practice integrates breath, posture, and focus to create a sense of awareness and stability.
Start in Easy Pose, extend your arms, and practice Breath of Fire to the powerful rhythm of Jaap Sahib. For me, this part of the practice always feels amazing. Physically, it energises my entire body, while mentally, it creates a sense of calm focus, as if my mind is being gently cleared with every breath. Jaap, a Sanskrit term, means softly uttering prayers to invoke divine energy. Jaap Sahib is a rhythmic hymn composed like a necklace of pearls and gems, beautifully arranged around a string: the string is the Supreme God; the pearls and gems are His attributes, excellences, and glories.
As the rhythmic sound of the mantra fills the space around you, the combination of breath and sound creates an electrifying energy that elevates your focus and invigorates your entire system. The Jaap Sahib, with its profound vibrations, amplifies the energy flow in your body, grounding you in your power as a woman. While you move through the breath, you feel your mind sharpen and your energy rise, bringing a sense of strength, clarity, and deep connection to yourself. This practice boosts physical energy and connects you to the divine feminine, enhancing inner strength and confidence.
Sahibi Kriya starts with simple moves like Alternate Leg Lifts and Cow Pose, progressing to advanced poses. Each movement, combined with the energising Breath of Fire, promotes a free flow of energy through the body, supporting physical health and mental clarity.

A Personal Perspective on Sahibi Kriya
Balancing medical school demands felt like a constant tug-of-war between mind and body. The long hours spent hunched over textbooks or in lectures took a toll not just mentally, but physically too.
I remember one evening during my second year when I was buried under assignments and clinical rotations. My back ached from hours of sitting, and my mind felt like a tangled web of deadlines and expectations. I realised I needed to find a way to regain control—not just to survive, but to feel balanced and whole again. Stress, fatigue, and a sense of being disconnected from my own body were recurring challenges, leaving me feeling drained and out of sync with myself. It wasn’t until I discovered this Kriya that I realized there’s more to thriving than just pushing through. This practice taught me how to reclaim control—over my body, my mind, and my energy.
Through simple yet powerful movements and breathwork, I've found the strength to rise above exhaustion and stress, helping me regain focus, clarity, and a deeper sense of connection to myself. It's been a game-changer, not just for surviving the demands of my studies, but for truly thriving through them. If there's one thing I've learned, it’s that taking control of your health doesn’t just mean surviving—it means learning to rise, to reclaim your power, and to show up as the best version of yourself.
Kundalini Yoga, and specifically Sahibi Kriya, became a pivotal practice that helped me regain a sense of balance and control over my mental and physical realms.
One of the most immediate benefits I experienced was a reduction in stress. Cow Pose and the energising Breath of Fire brought a profound sense of relaxation and clarity. From a medical perspective, this aligns with the science behind stress management. Practices like Breath of Fire activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for promoting relaxation and reducing cortisol levels. This physiological shift not only calmed my mind but also improved my ability to focus during demanding study sessions.
The physical benefits were equally profound. Regularly practising Leg Lifts enhanced my blood circulation, which was especially important during long hours of sitting while studying. Improved circulation brought a fresh sense of vitality, helping me stay energised and alert throughout the day. I also noticed improvements in my posture and reduced episodes of back pain, which are common challenges faced by students who spend much of their time seated.
Beyond the physiological changes, Sahibi Kriya fostered a deeper sense of connection to my inner self. The meditative aspects of the practice, particularly during the final stages, encouraged a sense of grounding and presence. This was invaluable during moments of academic pressure, as it helped me approach challenges with a clearer and calmer mindset.
Sahibi Kriya became a cornerstone of my well-being, helping me navigate medical school with resilience. For anyone facing similar challenges, whether in academics or other demanding professions, this kriya offers a holistic approach to nurturing both mind and body.
